Jaguar XEL Love Edition Arrives In China

Posted: 29 Nov 2017 04:30 AM PST

Jaguar are celebrating the introduction of the China-only XEL with a limited edition of the car, called Love.

Offered in 100 units and endorsed by a local singer and actor that goes by the name of William Chan, the new Jaguar XEL Love Edition will be available for sale until December 13.

It carries a price tag of 332,800 yuan (equal to $50,399), which makes it some 33,000 yuan ($4,997) more expensive than the entry-level XEL.

So what does paying the sticker price bring you? Well, let's see, you won't get any special 'Love Edition' badges, exterior colors, and interior novelties, as it appears that the only things present that you cannot have on the regular versions of the car are the 17-inch alloy wheels, with a two-tone finish, and 'Luxtec' stitching inside.

The new XEL Love Edition is only available with the automaker's 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which feeds 200PS (197hp) and 320Nm (236lb-ft) of torque to the wheels. If you were craving for the 250PS (246hp) and 365Nm (269lb-ft) variant of the same lump, then you will have to settle for the regular long wheelbase variant.

Alfa Romeo's Officially Returning To F1 With Sauber

Posted: 29 Nov 2017 03:51 AM PST

It's official, ladies and gents: Alfa Romeo is returning to Formula One, and it's doing so in partnership with Sauber.

The multi-year technical and commercial agreement will see the Swiss outfit run as the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team, starting this coming season, and bear the colors and logo of the storied Italian marque.

"The Alfa Romeo engineers and technicians, who have already demonstrated their capabilities with the newly-launched models, Giulia and Stelvio, will have the opportunity to make that experience available to the Sauber F1 Team," noted FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne. "At the same time, Alfa Romeo fans will once again have the opportunity to support an automaker that is determined to begin writing an exciting new chapter in its unique, legendary sporting history."

This will not, of course, be the first time that Alfa Romeo will compete in grand prix racing. The marque dominated pre-war racing, and returned in the 1950s to win back-to-back world championships. It stepped back into an engine-supplier role in the 1960s and 70s, then returned as a full-on constructor during the 1980s, but bowed out again in 1985. This will mark the first time we'll see Alfa Romeo represented on the grid since then, following an absence of over 30 years.

The deal will see the team running Ferrari engines and give the two companies the opportunity for further collaboration away from the race track as well, though what form that might take, at this point we don't know.

Sauber enjoyed a similar relationship with BMW in the previous decade before the German automaker pulled out of the sport (along with Toyota and Honda). But the team has a much longer history with Ferrari, running its engines fro 1997 through 2005 (rebranded by Malaysian oil company Petronas) and returning to Ferrari power from 2010 through today.

"Working closely with a car manufacturer is a great opportunity for the Sauber Group to further develop its technology and engineering projects," said Sauber chairman Pascal Picci. "We are confident that together we can bring the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team great success, and look forward to a long and successful partnership."

2018 Jeep Wrangler Sheds Weight, Adds Tech And 2.0L Turbo

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 09:50 PM PST

It's finally here. After years of waiting, months of spy shots and weeks of rampant speculation, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler has finally premiered at the LA Auto Show.

Underpinning the all-new Wrangler is a ladder-frame chassis complete with upgraded suspension and complemented by aluminum body panels. This allows the off-roader to be 200 lbs lighter than its predecessor yet still more rigid.

In terms of engines, the range starts with FCA's familiar Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 delivering 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Mated to eight a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, the four-door Wrangler Unlimited is officially rated at 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway with the manual. Opt for the automatic and those figures are 18 mpg and 23 mpg respectively.

The second engine available is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four cylinder, producing 268 hp and 295 lb-ft, not the 368 hp as wrongly claimed in official FCA documents. Interestingly, this powertrain is a mild-hybrid and consists of a 48-volt battery and belt starter-generator. In the future, a 3.0-liter diesel will be added to the range.

Customers will have two- and four-wheel drive configurations at their disposal and like the outgoing model, a number of different variants will be sold.

In terms of body styles, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler is available as a hardtop, a convertible top consisting of a number of removable roof panels, and as a powered soft top. Alongside these roof options, the 2018 Wrangler is offered as both a two-door and four-door, the former of which includes Sport, Sport S, and Rubicon trim levels. Meanwhile, the 2018 Wrangler four-door is available in Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon models.

Like the current car, the Rubicon model aims to offer the most off-road prowess. Consequently, it features 33-inch off-road tires, electronically disconnecting anti-roll bars, beefed up fenders, Dana 44 axles, and a host of suspension modifications.

Beyond wanting to improve the vehicle's off-road prowess, Jeep has spent a considerable amount of time overhauling the interior. To do so, all variants feature FCA's Uconnect infotainment system with screens in 5, 7, and 8.4-inch sizes. All include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a WiFi hotstop, two USB ports, and two 12V accessory ports.

Sales of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will start in January but no U.S. pricing details have been released just yet.

2019 Corvette ZR1 Convertible Drops 755 Horses In LA

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 09:44 PM PST

Barely two weeks after premiering the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, the American automaker has surprised many be unveiling the new Corvette ZR1 Convertible at the LA Auto Show.

Beneath the skin, the ZR1 Convertible is powered by the same LT5 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine as the coupe, therefore delivering an identical 755 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque. This will allow the car to accelerate from naught to 60 mph (96 km/h) in under 3 seconds and complete the quarter mile in the high 10-second range.

Chevrolet hasn't produced a ZR1 Convertible since the original model premiered in 1970. Clearly eager to ensure the car has been worth the weight, Chevrolet has ensured that it's only 60 lbs (27 kg) heavier than the hardtop. Thanks to the supercar's rigid structure, the ZR1 Convertible promises handling to rival its sibling.

"The ZR1 convertible is a no-compromise supercar. Thanks to the strong structure, the suspension tuning between coupe and convertible models is identical, meaning the ZR1 convertible offers the same benchmark performance, including a top speed of over 200 mph," said Corvette executive chief engineer Tadge Juechter.

Like the coupe, the 2019 Corvette ZR1 Convertible can be equipped with the $2,995 ZTK Performance Package, adding a large rear wing, front splitter, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and Magnetic Ride control suspension. The car produces up to 950 lbs of downforce.

Chevrolet has confirmed that the ZR1 Coupe will start at $119,995 while the ZR1 Convertible will be priced from $123,995.

Jaguar XE SV Project 8 Sets Nurburgring Sedan Record Of 7min 23sec

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 08:32 PM PST

The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 has become the fastest sedan to ever lap the Nurburgring, recording a blistering time of 7 minutes and 23 seconds.

The previous record was a 7 min 32 sec set by the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio but Jaguar managed to slashed a full nine seconds off that record with the hardcore XE SV Project 8 in production-intent specification.

Unlike the Giulia Quadrifoglio which is sold throughout the world and in large numbers, Jaguar will only build 300 examples of the Project 8. Nevertheless, it shows the Germans and Italians that they can't have the high-performance sedan market all to themselves.

Speaking about the Nurburgring record, Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations managing director John Edwards said, "SVO exists to push the boundaries of performance, luxury and all-terrain capability. The hand-assembled XE SV Project 8 takes that principle to the limit, extracting supercar-beating performance from Jaguar's most compact four-door sedan. The Nürburgring Nordschleife record underlines our commitment to deliver the most extreme Jaguar ever to Project 8 clients, who will soon experience this sensational sedan for themselves."

Sitting at the heart of the XE SV Project 8 is a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine with 600 PS. Connected exclusively to an eight-speed transmission, the super sedan can accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 mph (321 km/h).

Lincoln Brings Back Names With 2019 Nautilus, A Continental-Faced MKX

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:43 PM PST

Lincoln has taken the wraps off the all-new 2019 Nautilus at the LA Auto Show as a direct replacement to the MKX.

A mid-size luxury SUV, the Lincoln Nautilus will be available with two different engines. The entry-level one is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder delivering an estimated 245 hp. Sitting at the top of the range is a turbocharged 2.7-liter engine delivering 335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. Beyond using forced induction, this engine also has direct injection and twin independent variable camshaft timing. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and include Auto Start-Stop capability as standard.

From a design standpoint, there's absolutely no mistaking the Nautilus from the SUV it replaces. In fact, its front fascia bares a striking resemblance to the Lincoln Continental and is characterized by a prominent chrome grille with distinctive headlights and LED daytime running lights.

In the cabin, Lincoln has implemented a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, hand-stitched leather steering wheel, and a large central touchscreen with SYNC 3 and supporting both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If customers want the best Lincoln can offer, Ultra Comfort seats can be installed up front, complete with 22 ways of adjustment. Both 13-speaker and 19-speaker Revel audio systems are also offered.

As you'd expect from a premium SUV of this kind, the Nautilus has a suite of safety and convenience systems. Among these are adaptive cruise control, Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Information System, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping aid, active park assist, and an auto-hold feature that holds the car without the brake pedal.

Lincoln has also introduced its Black Label experience to the Nautilus. Beyond offering customers a range of membership privileges, Lincoln Black Label adds three distinctive interior and exterior themes to the SUV.

The first, dubbed Chalet, comes complete with Espresso and Alpine Venetian leathers and Silverwood accents. The second, coined Thoroughbred, aims to celebrate the elite lifestyle of horse racing and combines Rich Venetian leathers with Alcantara, Jet Black, and Chilean Maple wood accents. The third is Gala, inspired by New York's Met Gala. It consists of Carmine leather, Onyx leather and an Alcantara headliner. A number of aluminum touches are also included.

The 2019 Lincoln Nautilus will reach Lincoln dealerships this summer.

New 2019 Ascent Is Subaru's Largest SUV Yet, Goes After Honda Pilot

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:27 PM PST

The all-new 2019 Subaru Ascent has just been unveiled on the eve of the LA Auto Show. As the largest Subaru ever with seating for up to eight people, it promises exceptional versatility and comes laden with a host of noteworthy features.

Subaru first previewed the Ascent as a concept in April and for the most part, the design of the production model is free of any significant changes. As such, the SUV adopts the automaker's 'Dynamic x Solid' design philosophy and utilizes a hexagonal front grille with C-shaped headlights designed to mimic the look of pistons moving inside a boxer engine.

Sitting at the heart of the new three-row SUV is an all-new 2.4-liter boxer engine featuring direct fuel injection and a twin-scroll turbocharger. It delivers 260 hp at 5,600 rpm and 277 lb-ft of torque between 2,000 and 4,800 rpm. All models come complete with a CVT transmission featuring an 8-speed manual mode. The Ascent can tow up to 5,000 lbs and cover in excess of 500 miles on a single tank.

As standard, the 2019 Ascent boasts a second-row bench seat and can carry eight passengers. If customers don't need so many seats, different configurations are available, including a second-row captain's chair on select trim levels.

Speaking of trim levels, the 2019 Ascent will be sold in Base, Premium, Limited, and Touring configurations. The base model includes important features like Subaru's EyeSight system with automatic emergency braking and lane keep assist, a 6.5-inch multimedia touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 18-inch wheels, raised roof rails, three-zone automatic climate control and Auto Vehicle Hold, a feature that holds the Ascent in place without the need for the brake pedal to be depressed.

Moving up in the range, the Premium trim adds Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, WiFi, heated exterior mirrors, Reverse Automatic Braking and more. As for the Limited, it adds leather upholstery, 20-inch wheels, all season tires, Keyless Access with Push-Button Start, among other touches.

Last but not least is the Touring, outfitted with satin silver wing mirrors, chrome trimmings, and a luxurious interior that includes a 14-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system.

Sales of the 2019 Subaru Ascent will start in early summer 2018 with prices starting in the low-$30,000 range.

VW I.D. Crozz Concept Makes U.S. Debut Before 2020 Launch

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:02 PM PST

VW has confirmed that the I.D. Crozz Concept will spawn a production model to be sold in the United States in 2020.

Set to be shown to attendees at the LA Auto Show alongside the I.D. Buzz and original I.D. hatchback concept, the Crozz will play an important role in kick starting the German carmaker's EV revolution in the United States.

VW first unveiled the I.D. Crozz Concept at April's Shanghai Auto Show and then updated it for the Frankfurt Auto Show a couple of months ago. In concept guise, it uses a pair of electric motors, one on each axle, to deliver a combined 302 hp. When mated to an 83 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, this allows the I.D. Crozz to travel roughly 300 miles on a single charge.

When it reaches production, VW will equip the I.D. Crozz with a quick-charging function that will top up the battery to 80 per cent of its capacity in 30 minutes through a 150 kWh DC charger.

Elsewhere, the concept includes an advanced autonomous driving system which VW intends on deploying to production vehicles in 2025.

The system consists of four laser scanners that pop up from the roof, side area view cameras, a front camera, and ultrasonic and radar sensors. It can be activated through a simple voice control system or by pressing on the VW logo on the steering wheel for three seconds.

VW has previously confirmed that the I.D. Buzz will also be sold in the United States but hasn't said if the hatchback will make it stateside.

Watch The 2019 Subaru Ascent Unveiling Live

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 06:25 PM PST

Subaru has a checkered past with three-row crossovers but that hasn't stopped the automaker from unveiling the 2019 Ascent at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Effectively a replacement for the Tribeca, the Ascent was previewed by a concept at the New York Auto Show and it adopts a more conventional design than its slow-selling predecessor.

The model sort of resembles an Outback XL and this likely wasn't an accident as Carsalesbase data shows the company sold 182,898 Outbacks in the United States last year. To put those figures into perspective, Subaru only sold 65,306 Legacy models.

We'll have full details shortly but the Ascent will be built at the company's plant in Indiana and ride on the automaker's global platform. The model is expected to measure 198.8 inches (5,049 mm) long, 78.3 inches (1,989 mm) wide, and 72.4 inches (1,839 mm) tall with a wheelbase that spans 117 inches (2,972 mm).

Rumors have suggested the crossover will be powered by a new turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces around 300 hp (223 kW). Of course, we'll find out the final specifications soon enough.

2019 Infiniti QX50 Bows In LA With World's First Production Variable Compression Engine

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:31 PM PST

Following a preview earlier this month, Infiniti has unveiled the 2019 QX50.

Previewed by the QX Sport Inspiration concept, the production model has a "Powerful Elegance" design that has been created to give the crossover a commanding presence. As part of this mission, the model has been equipped with a bold front fascia that features a double-arch grille and slender LED headlights.

The dynamic styling is evident elsewhere as designers installed a clamshell hood, strong character lines, and tasteful amounts of plastic body cladding. A closer inspection reveals a chromed dual exhaust system, LED taillights, and 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels.

Infiniti interiors have always been a bit of a mixed bag but the cabin in the QX50 makes an impressive first appearance. A variety of different types of leather will be available and they can be mated with wood or aluminum trim.

Another notable interior feature is the new InTouch infotainment system which consists of a main 8-inch touchscreen display and a second 7-inch touchscreen which is used to control the climate and entertainment functions. Other highlights include an available heads-up display and a cargo compartment that can hold up to 64.4 cubic feet (1823 liters) of luggage when the rear seats are folded down.

Power is provided by an all-new 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine which produces 268 hp (200 kW) and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque. It is connected to an XTRONIC continuously variable transmission which has been designed to replicate a traditional eight-speed automatic gearbox. Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive will be optional.

While this is normally where we would stop talking about the engine, the 2.0-liter VC-Turbo is truly unique as it is the world's first production engine with a variable compression ratio. The ratio ranges from 8:1 to 14:1 and it enables the model to offer high-performance as well as impressive fuel-efficiency. Speaking of the latter, the QX50 will have a combined fuel economy rating of 27 mpg with front-wheel drive and 26 mpg combined with all-wheel drive.

Since Infiniti is a luxury brand, it should come as little surprise the QX50 can be equipped with an impressive assortment of driver assistance features. These include Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Warning and Intervention, Back-up Collision Intervention, and Forward Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection.

One of the more notable features is the ProPILOT Assist function which is a semi-autonomous driving system that allows the car to take over "single-lane driving operation at the push of a button, without the driver's input on acceleration, braking, or steering."

2019 Lamborghini Urus Interior Revealed, Blends Luxury With Sport

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 05:21 PM PST

Lamborghini is counting down the days to the unveiling of the Urus and we're getting a better glimpse of the interior thanks to several photos that were posted to Instagram.

As you can see, the Urus will have a bespoke cabin that shares little with platform mates such as the Bentley Bentayga and Porsche Cayenne. Instead, drivers will be treated to a sporty cabin that features a flat-bottomed steering wheel, carbon fiber trim, and metallic accents.

Perhaps the most noticeable feature is the three different displays for the instrument cluster, infotainment system, and climate control system. The latter display resides above a large Anima (Soul) selector that provides easy access to the Urus' six different driving modes.

Other notable features include two-tone leather seats, contrast stitching, and a prominent Lamborghini badge on the passenger side of the dashboard. We can also see hexagonal air vents and unique switchgear.

The Urus will be unveiled on December 4th and it is expected to be powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces approximately 650 hp (484 kW) and 627 lb-ft (849 Nm) of torque. This will reportedly enable the crossover to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in less than 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed in excess of 188 mph (302 km/h).

2019 Subaru Ascent: First Photo Of The Production 7-Seater SUV

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:27 PM PST

Subaru is getting back to the three-row crossover segment with the Ascent and this is our first unobstructed view of the production model.

We'll remind you that the 2019 Subaru Ascent is scheduled for a world premiere at this week's Los Angeles Auto Show.

Sent to us by one of our readers, Justin, the screenshot was apparently taken from Subaru's website (we haven't found the page yet).

Having learned a (hard) lesson from its previous effort to create a 7-seater in the form of the B9 Tribeca, produced from 2005 through 2014, Subaru has created a true mid-size SUV this time, both in size and styling.

There are no surprises when it comes to the Ascent's design, as it was previewed by a near-production ready concept in New York earlier this year. Of course, the consumer model drops some of the study's fancier embellishments like the headlamps, door mirrors and chunky wheels for more digestible details. The end result is something that should appeal to your typical Subaru as well as mid-size SUV buyer – we'll let you decide if that's a good or bad thing.

We expect the production car to keep close to the concept's footprint at 198.8 inches (5,049 mm) long, 78.3 inches (1,989 mm) wide, and 72.4 inches (1,839 mm) tall with a wheelbase that spans 117 inches (2,972 mm).

Based on Subaru's new global platform, the Aascent is rumored to be powered by a new turbocharged direct-injection boxer engine, but we'll know for sure tomorrow.

Aside from the crossover's looks, the screenshot also informs us that the Ascent comes with a 5,000-pound towing capacity which is the "most towing capacity of any Subaru vehicle ever, along with an available Class III trailer hitch and wide selection of Thule racking accessories".

Many thanks to Justin for the tip!

2019 Hyundai Veloster Teased, Debuts In Detroit

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 05:09 PM PST

The Los Angeles Auto Show is already underway but Hyundai has joined Volkswagen in teasing a model for the North American International Auto Show.

Seen in these official photos, the 2019 Veloster is a stylish follow up to the first-generation model which launched nearly eight years ago. The overall shape appears to be largely the same but Hyundai designers focused on the details and apparently eliminated some of the car's odder styling quirks.

Starting up front, we can see a massive grille that appears more upright than on its predecessor. It is flanked by LED-infused headlights and vertical air intakes. The sporty styling continues further back as the non-camouflaged image shows muscular fender flares, a rakish windscreen, and a more coupe-like roofline.

The photos only give us a glimpse of the car's rear end but it appears to be a little more curvaceous than on the current model. The rear bumper also looks like it will protrude further out from tailgate as opposed to the nearly flush design on the outgoing model.

Hyundai isn't ready to talk performance specifications but the Veloster will apparently be offered with two turbocharged engines displacing 1.4- and 1.6-liters. Both will reportedly come equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission while the latter engine will be offered with a traditional six-speed manual to please the purists.

Speaking of performance, the Veloster is slated to have three different driving modes and the sport mode is promising to offer faster acceleration and quicker shifting times.

In South Korea, the model will be offered with an assortment of high-tech features including a heads-up display, adaptive cruise control, and a collision warning system. The car will also offer high beam assist and a lane departure warning system.

The Idiot's Guide To Using The Launch Control In Your New BMW M

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 04:00 PM PST

Using the Launch Control in a modern performance car can make the difference between winning and losing a drag race, but do you know how to engage it in a new BMW M?

The ritual starts with the most important part, one that's often ignored: warming up the engine. Then you'll have to turn the DSC off, put the gear shifter from automatic to manual and set the 'Drive Logic' to level three to speed up the double-clutch gearbox.

Bear with us, because you're just seconds away from turning the feature on, as all you have to do now is press down on the brake with your left foot and apply full throttle with the right foot. This activates the Launch Control, as highlighted by the chequered flag that appears on the instrument cluster under the rev meter.

As a final step, you have to choose the rpms by using the button that normally adjusts the cruise control speed; BMW recommends setting it between 3,000 and 3,500 rpm.

Now you're finally ready to go, so keep an eye on the lights/flag, and remember: drag racing is best kept for a track, not public roads.

U Spy The 2019 Honda Pilot Facelift In California

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:31 PM PST

The redesigned 2019 Honda Pilot has been spied by a CarScoops reader in Mojave, California.

While the third-generation model is only a couple of years old, it appears the company is preparing to give its three-row crossover a facelift to keep it competitive with newer rivals such as the Chevrolet Traverse.

Since the prototype is heavily camouflaged, styling changes are hard to spot. However, we can expect the usual updates including a revised front fascia with new headlights and possibly a modified grille that echoes the CR-V or Ridgeline. The crossover could also be equipped new taillights and an updated interior but we'll likely have to wait a little bit longer to know for sure.

The third-generation Honda Pilot debuted at the Chicago Auto Show in 2015 and it features a 3.5-liter V6 engine which develops 280 hp (208 kW) and 262 lb-ft (354 Nm) of torque. Base models are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, while Touring and Elite variants receive a nine-speed gearbox.

It's possible the latter transmission could become standard when the facelifted model is introduced but nothing is official as of yet. However, if this does occur, we can a expect a minor improvement in fuel-efficiency as models with the nine-speed gearbox get an additional 1 mpg city and 1 mpg combined.

Thanks to CarScoops reader Tony for the pictures!

2019 VW Jetta Teased Ahead Of A Detroit Debut

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:31 PM PST

Volkswagen has teased the 2019 Jetta on the company's consumer website in Canada of all places.

First noticed by VW Vortex, the teaser image shows the model will have an evolutionary design and adopt a new front fascia with a more prominent grille. Styling details are hard to make out but the model bears a strong resemblance to images that surfaced earlier this year.

The teaser site also includes a countdown clock that reveals the model will be unveiled in a little over 50 days. That's January 18th which falls in line with the North American International Auto Show.

Volkswagen North America CEO Hinrich Woebcken has previously confirmed the car will debut in Detroit and stated it will be "super modern" and have an "emotional" design with coupe-like styling. The executive added the car has been given a "North American 'touch' but not always in terms of low cost and less content."

A lot of details remain unconfirmed but Woebcken stated a manual transmission and an R-Line variant will be available at launch. Approximately one year later, the company will introduce the new Jetta GLI.

The car is slated to ride on the MQB platform and rumors have suggested it will be powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine. It currently produces 150 hp (111 kW) and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque but Car and Driver suggests it may receive a power boost.

Ford F-150 Raptor Takes A Dose Of Steroids From GeigerCars

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 02:01 PM PST

Well-known tuning company GeigerCars has decided to take a standard Ford F-150 Raptor and adorn it with a plethora of modifications to create what we have here; the Raptor EcoBoost HP520.

As is typical of most tuners, GeigerCars started its F-150 project by modifying the pickup's 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine and injecting a shot of steroids, lifting power to a mighty 520 hp and 539 lb-ft of torque. These gains don't come from lifting weights and eating protein by the pound and instead are the result of a new cold air intake, ECU remapping, and high-efficiency air cooler.

With work on the engine done, Geiger turned its attention to the Raptor's suspension system, equipping it with a lift kit that increases the ride height by four inches. To make the most of this increased ground clearance, a set of aftermarket 22-inch wheels have been installed alongside 37x13.5-inch R22 off-road tires.

If customers want more than just improved performance, GeigerCars has also developed a Luxury Package for the pickup. Priced at $9,345, the package comes complete with satellite navigation, dual automatic climate control, an upgraded audio system, and a 360-degree camera.

Prices for an overhauled F-150 Raptor from GeigerCars start at 124,600 euros, or roughly $148,000 in the U.S.

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 01:32 PM PST

Things haven't been going well for Faraday Future recently. Now the startup automaker has reportedly canceled its involvement in Formula E.

According to Autosport, the company's partnership with the Dragon Racing team has come to an end, the automaker's name dropped from the entry for next season.

It's just the latest sign of trouble for the electric automaker that is increasingly looking like a flash in the pan, destined to die out before actually producing anything. The company surfaced three years ago with lofty ambitions, but recently had to cancel its plans for a new production site in Nevada and watch five of its senior executives walk out the front door.

The reasons for Faraday's split with Dragon, however, may not be as much about the former's troubles as the latter's. The team run by Roger Penske's media-savvy son Jay left the IndyCar Series for Formula E in 2014 (around the same time that Faraday first appeared on the scene), showing strong in the first couple of seasons with two wins and six additional podiums.

But its performance dropped off drastically last season, yielding a solitary best fifth-place finish to end the season in eighth place – a far cry from the runner-up status it achieved in the championship's inaugural season.

That could leave Faraday in a position to participate in other ways, including sponsoring races (as it did with the 2016 Long Beach ePrix) or shift its focus to other forms of motorsport (as it has at Pikes Peak). We wouldn't count on it, though.

2019 Range Rover Evoque Will Basically Look Like A Smaller Velar

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 12:59 PM PST

Land Rover is working on the next generation Evoque which will apparently borrow a few things from its bigger sibling, the Velar.

The British carmaker has decided to not mess too much with the successful recipe of the Evoque, which makes sense since it's been one of their best-selling models since its original debut.

Land Rover's design boss Gerry McGovern said to Autocar that the new Evoque doesn't have to be reinvented; instead the smaller Range Rover will be designed with the intention of making it "more relevant". He then added that the company was looking at "how to make the vehicle more modern, precise, more comfortable, more luxurious, those things – not just pure aesthetics".

The exterior design will be heavily influenced by the new Velar, which has already served as an inspiration to the recently facelifted Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models. The new Evoque will also feature most of the Velar's interior tech, including the dashboard's dual-touchscreen layout and digital instrument cluster.

Under the fresh new bodywork, the new Evoque will use on a re-engineered version of the current model's D8 platform, which is also used in slightly different versions on cars like the Discovery Sport and Jaguar E-Pace.

These platform updates are focused on making the new Evoque more comfortable and refined as Land Rover wants it to offer a true "mini Range Rover" feel in terms of luxury and refinement. That also gives Jaguar the chance to distance themselves with the sportier E-Pace.

The size of the second generation Evoque will be slightly bigger, compared to the current model. The wheelbase will be stretched by 21mm to 2681mm while the tracks will also be wider and the rear trailing arm suspension will be redesigned for more cabin space.

The Ingenium engine range will carry over from the existing Evoque, meaning a 2,0-liter petrol unit offered in different power outputs between 237hp and 296hp and a 2.0-liter diesel ranging from 148hp to 237hp. All engines will be paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission and will be retuned for better fuel economy and CO2 emissions. A mild hybrid version will reportedly be available after 2020.

Base models will be offered with front-wheel drive with Land Rover offering all-wheel drive on more expensive versions. The new Range Rover Evoque is expected to make its official debut at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, with European sales set to begin in early 2019.

2014 Cadillac Escalade ESV Sparks Sarcasm-Filled Review

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 12:29 PM PST

If your idea of a cool ride that can fit you and your entire entourage is the previous-generation Cadillac ESV, then you're probably still hung up in the mid-2000s.

To be fair, you're looking at a popular car, regardless of how you might feel about it. The Escalade ESV has long been a staple of not just pop culture but luxury SUV culture in general in the U.S. Of course, that doesn't mean it gets a pass on the RegularCars YouTube channel.

"NFL championship rings rolled across your heated steering wheel," is the type of thing you can safely assume about this type of car. Still, we won't go as far as to comment on that "entourages of high skirts" jibe.

But you probably get the picture, if you hadn't already. The Escalade ESV, old or new, isn't the type of car you buy as a sensible family SUV, especially when you can get a Chevy Suburban for less money.

According to this reviewer, the Escalade, as long as you get it used, is the official car for "ballin' on a budget", which is a contradiction in and of itself.

We reckon there's plenty to laugh at or agree with in this video, so we'll just let you enjoy the jokes and who knows, perhaps even the car.

How About A Little More Practicality For The All-New Tesla Roadster?

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 11:58 AM PST

In case your idea of a Tesla-badged Shooting Brake is something inherently sporty rather than practical and simply quick in a straight line, you could try this render on for size.

As you can see, not a lot of changes were made to the brand new Tesla Roadster in order to turn it into something with more cargo space, and perhaps a little more charisma as well.

All X-Tomi Design had to do was make the roof line a little longer and get it to curb downwards at precisely the right angle that would allow for a wagon-like rear end.

The overall design isn't too unrealistic. Tesla could have probably built the car as a Shooting Brake if they wanted to, but then it would have defeated the purpose of a "next-gen Roadster".

Still, if you want to see a real life Tesla Shooting Brake, check out this Model S P90D that's being converted into a sporty Estate in the UK. The car is expected to feature even better aerodynamics than the Model S sedan, while weighing about the same.

What's Faster: An Electric Racing Car Or A Cheetah?

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 11:30 AM PST

Most of the drag races we see on a regular basis take place between two cars. Maybe a car and a motorcycle, or even a car and an aircraft of some sort. But this is something else entirely.

Released by the organizers of the FIA Formula E Championship, the video pits an all-electric single-seat racer against a cheetah. Not the progenitor of the Lamborghini LM002, not some Cobra-killing Corvette, but an actual cheetah. As in, the fast-running big cat.

As the video points out, a cheetah in its prime is capable of accelerating to 62 miles per hour about as fast as a Formula E racer. Not one belonging to Jaguar Racing, which would be apt enough, but to the aptly named Techeetah team for which former F1 driver Jean-Eric Vergne – winner of the last race in Montreal – drove this past season and will again the next.

Now having watched the clip, we have our doubts that the race actually took place as depicted. It's probably the result of some clever splicing of footage between the wildcat and the racecar. But it's a fun exercise to watch just the same.

2019 Lincoln Nautilus Is The Facelifted MKX

Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:27 PM PST

After waiting all day for Lincoln to show us that mystery vehicle they teased us with yesterday, the 2019 Nautilus SUV has just surfaced on YouTube ahead of schedule.

All we knew until today was that this new model was meant to "make a lasting impression", and that it was going to be on display in LA next to the 2019 MKC. What we're finding out though is that the Nautilus isn't exactly all-new, but rather an update for the MKX.

The new name also brings with it a new design, where the front end resembles a Continental's, which does help make the SUV look a little more elegant. The rear end however hasn't been changed significantly.

In similar fashion to the 2019 MKC, the Nautilus also features a more traditional grille rather than that winged designed you saw on the 2018 MKX. Meanwhile, its headlights are smaller and no longer make contact with the grille, as they did before the facelift.

Inside, the changes are subtle, yet they're there if you look close enough. For starters, there's a new steering wheel, noticeably different than the one found on the 2018 MKX or even the new 2019 MKC. It features a clearer three-spoke design, and a new layout for the multifunction buttons. New trims, materials and colors are also to be expected, and the digital gauge cluster is a strong 2018-worthy addition.

As for the engine range and full list of features, we should know more about the Nautilus once Lincoln sends out the press release. Keep in mind that the MKX currently makes use of a 3.7-liter Ti-VCT V6 engine, and a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6.
